Is your denture starting to feel loose or uncomfortable. Have you had them for many years and they are starting to feel worn? Then you may be considering getting a new denture.
In the first instance, it is important to look at your current denture and understand what your not happy with.
Its Not Comfortable
If you start to notice that the once well fitting denture is starting to cause discomfort or not be as comfortable, it may be down to the constant changes in your mouth. It is important to understand that when you lose your teeth, your bodies natural reaction is for the bone in the jaw to fade away. This is known as “bone resorption”. What this means for your denture, is that when it was initially made, it was made for your mouth at that specific moment in time. It is natural for changes to occur so dentures can start to feel not as comfortable as they once were.
Generally in these situations, a denture reline may be possible to make the denture comfortable again. This is when the base of the denture is modified (relined) to fit your mouth again. By being snugger and more precise, the denture will act and feel more like your natural teeth again.
The Denture Has Broken
If its a case of the denture being broken, then a denture repair may be possible. This is dependant on how badly broken the denture and where the breaks are. If its a clean break with two separate parts, then it can be a simple case of repairing it. We will be able to assess it case by case and will let you know if the denture is not saveable.
