When you have dentures they will be a big part of your life. Just like your natural teeth, they will be invaluable to your quality of life. This is why it is important that you are happy with them and they fit well.
When it comes to dentures, it is to be expected that adjustments may be required to get them to the comfortable and well fitted stage. We work closely with our patients through the patient journey and we will give honest expectations throughout each step. We find this is important as patients will be prepared and happy when adjustments are required.
Adjustments are a part of getting new dentures. This is because when your working with part of the anatomy it requires very precise measurements and the soft tissue can be hard to predict how it reacts to a prosthesis (denture). Our bodies are very reactive in nature. What this means is when you put in a foreign body our bodies will react. This means that the reaction can cause the denture to not quite sit right and will need to be adjusted to make it into a comfortable sitting position.
Why Does My Once Well Fitted Denture Feel Uncomfortable
Over time our mouths can and will change. This is due to not having our natural teeth. Our bone in the jaw will fade away and will cause the denture to not sit quite right. How fast this occurs will vary from one person to the next. This may mean that in a few years the bottom of the denture needs to be realigned to make it comfortable again.
